BRASILIA, Brazil -- Taunted by local fans since the Olympics began and stinging from a surprising loss, Hope Solo called Sweden a bunch of cowards. Saucony Outlet España .The U.S. goalkeeper criticized the Swedes for the way they played Friday in beating the Americans in a penalty shootout -- a result that means the worlds top-ranked team will miss out on a medal in womens soccer for the first time.I thought we played a courageous game, Solo said. I also think we played a bunch of cowards. The best team did not win today. I strongly and firmly believe that. The Swedes beat the U.S. 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the quarterfinals. They will next face host Brazil on Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro. Its OK to be a coward if you win, responded Sweden coach Pia Sundhage, the same woman who coached the United States to back-to-back Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012.A few hours after the match, Solo posted on Twitter and seemed to feel some remorse, but she stopped short of apologizing.Losing sucks, Solo tweeted. Im really bad at it.Tied after three rounds in the shootout, Sweden captain Caroline Seger shot past Solo. U.S. forward Christen Press attempt then went over Hedvig Lindahls net. And with the next kick, Lisa Dahlkvist beat an outstretched Solo for the win.Sweden dropped off. They didnt want to open play, Solo said, explaining why she criticized her opponents. They didnt want to pass the ball. They didnt want to play great soccer.Sundhage knows the U.S. team well, having coached the Americans for five years and led them to a pair of Olympic golds. They played more attacking football then we did. We defended very well, Sundhage said. And the fact that there were only two goals and it went to penalty kicks said something about our defending. The U.S. played better in the attack, we played better in the defense. As Sweden celebrated, U.S. captain Carli Lloyd crouched on the field at Mane Garrincha Stadium in disbelief. The three-time defending champion United States had been the clear favorites in Brazil to become the first team to win an Olympic gold following a Womens World Cup title. Its always hard to swallow losing in PKs. Yeah, I mean its going to hurt, Lloyd said. Weve got to hold our heads high. This team is not going to crumble. Were going to just work that much harder. Its been a busy couple of years. Thats why no one has won back-to-back.Solo, who has endured near-constant taunts of Zika! Zika! for a week, has courted controversy for her comments in the past. And on Friday, she was also criticized for changing her gloves during the penalty shootout. After a scoreless first half, Stina Blackstenius scored in the 61st minute to give Sweden a 1-0 lead. Alex Morgan netted the equalizer in the 78th and the match went to extra time.Lloyd then had a header called back for offside in the 115th minute, and Lotta Schelin was offside on her attempt against Solo a minute later -- although replays appeared to show otherwise. The reigning World Cup champions, who are also four-time Olympic champions, had not dropped a match this year.Really just heartbroken right now for the girls and the federation. Its unfortunate, said Morgan, who missed the first penalty in the shootout. I feel like we were prepared but so were Sweden. I felt today could go either way.The Americans won their first two matches in Brazil before a surprising 2-2 draw in Manaus against Colombia, which had already been eliminated.Sweden had won only five prior matches against the United States. At last years World Cup, the two teams played to a scoreless draw. The last time the two teams met in the Olympics was at the 1996 Atlanta Games. Sundhage was a player on the Sweden team that fell 2-1 to the Americans.Ranked sixth in the world, Sweden had struggled in its Olympic group with a 5-1 loss to host Brazil and finished 1-1-1.The crowd at Mane Garrincha Stadium was sparse but continued to jeer Solo every time she touched the ball. The local fans are still upset about her posts on social media about the Zika virus. Solo posted a picture of herself in mosquito netting and armed with insect repellant. The host Brazilians won 7-6 on penalties after a scoreless draw with Australia in Belo Horizonte. Uniteds eighth defeat of a wretched campaign means Liverpool, which currently occupies the fourth and final Champions League place, could go nine points clear of its fierce rival by beating West Bromwich Albion on Sunday. Charlie Adam scored both of Stokes goals at Britannia Stadium either side of Robin van Persies equalizer, with a miserable day for seventh-place United capped by first-half injuries to centre halves Jonny Evans and Phil Jones that forced them off. . Jon Montgomerys gold medal in skeleton at the Whistler Sliding Centre and his subsequent auctioning off of a pitcher of beer in the village square elevated him to folk-hero status. LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- While history says his teams make a jump in Season 2, John Fox wasnt making any bold predictions for the Chicago Bears. He just knows they are in a better spot than they were a year ago.Its hard to predict whats going to happen, he said. But ... Im pleased with where we are this year. If I had to compare to something, it would be this time last year and I feel much better about where we are now than I did at this time a year ago.The Bears enter their second training camp under Fox and general manager Ryan Pace with a different look after a busy offseason. Their sights are set higher coming off a last-place finish in the NFC North at 6-10.They did look more like a professional outfit after being engulfed by chaos the previous season. But they are seeking more.Foxs record suggests they can expect that in Season 2. Carolina went from seven wins in 2002 to 11 and won the NFC championship in 2003, while Denver went from eight wins in 2011 to 13 in 2012.Here are some things to watch during training camp:TAKE TWO: Now that Kevin White is healthy after missing his rookie season with a stress fracture in his left shin, maybe he and Alshon Jeffery will form the dynamic receiver tandem the Bears envisioned. Then again, Jeffery is a bit of a question mark after injuries limited him to nine games. He still led the team in receiving. But calf, hamstring, groin and shoulder problems raised questions about his durability even though he played in all 16 games the previous two years.Jeffery also stayed away from the teams voluntary organized activities after being designated a franchise player during free agency.REPLACING PLAYMAKERS: The Bears are down two of their top playmakers on offense now that Matt Forte and tight end Martellus Bennett are gone. And they are banking on players who are somewhat unproven or have long injury histories to replace them. The decision not to offer two-time Pro Bowler Forte a contract after eight seasons dealt a blow to both the running and passing games. It also created a big opportunity for Jeremy Langford, who showed promise as a rookie and finished with 537 yards rushing and 279 receiving. KaDeem Carey, Jacquizz Rodgers and fifth-round pick Jordan Howard also figure in the mix.At tight end, the Bears are eentrusting Zach Miller after trading Bennett to New England. Zapatillas Saucony Outlet. Thats hardly a sure thing: Miller missed the 2012, 2013 and 2014 seasons because of injuries. But he re-established himself in Chicago last season, catching 34 passes for 439 yards and a team-leading five touchdown receptions. That led to a two-year contract in March.DEFENSIVE BOOST: The Bears have been overhauling a defense that ranked among the worst in franchise history ever since Pace and Fox arrived. That continued during the offseason. The Bears signed Danny Trevathan from Super Bowl champion Denver and added Jerrell Freeman from Indianapolis to fill needs at inside linebacker. They traded up to draft Georgia outside linebacker Leonard Floyd with the ninth pick, believing his athleticism will give them a pass-rush threat who can also drop back into coverage. The Bears, a franchise built on a foundation of defense, tied for 22nd in sacks and 30th in interceptions. But they believe they are poised to make a jump.PROTECTION: Only one of the five offensive linemen who started the first three games in 2015 -- Kyle Long -- figures to be in the lineup for the opener. And he is at a different position, back at right guard after filling in at right tackle a year ago. That switch was made possible by the signing of Bobby Massie. The Bears have Hroniss Grasu at center, with Charles Leno at left tackle and rookie Cody Whitehair and veteran Ted Larsen at left guard.CONTINUITY FOR CUTLER: The Bears lost their offensive coordinator when Adam Gase took the Miami Dolphins head coaching job. But they at least maintained some continuity by promoting quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains. That should mean a smoother transition for Jay Cutler, who had a career-high 92.3 passer rating and cut his interceptions from 18 to 11 in 15 games.INJURY WATCH: Linebacker Pernell McPhee had arthroscopic knee surgery in the offseason, and it was not clear if he will be ready for the start of camp. McPhee slowed after a strong start last season, finishing with six sacks after getting five in the first seven games.---AP NFL website: and ' ' '
RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazilian prosecutors have filed charges against a high-ranking Olympic official in connection to a ticket-scalping case that unfolded during last months Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Sean Rodriguez Jersey .Marcos Kac, a state prosecutor, said on Tuesday he decided to charge Olympic Council of Ireland President Patrick Hickey and nine others with ticket scalping, conspiracy and ambush marketing, after reviewing the police investigation. We found enough evidence linking Hickey to this plot to sell tickets by a company that was not authorized, Kac told The Associated Press. These are tickets that were sold for up to $8,000.Earlier Tuesday, Hickey arrived at police headquarters, but declined to answer additional questions after he was summoned in the wake of new findings. Hickey, 71, also made no comment to reporters upon leaving. The OCI head was arrested on Aug. 17 during the games in his Rio hotel room. Also the head of Europes Olympic bodies, Hickey was jailed in a prison complex after a two-day stay in a local hospital to undergo tests because of his medical history. He was set free last week when a judge ruled that he wasnt a risk to the public or the investigation. His passport was confiscated, and he must remain in Brazil until the case is concluded.Police have said that Hickey plotted with businessmen to transfer tickets illegally from a sports company called Pro 10 to hospitality provider THG Sports, which was a non-authorized vendor and allegedly sold them for very high fees. Police investigators said the scheme was planned to rake in $3 million. The head of THG Sports, Kevin James Mallon, was arrested on Aug. 5 in the case, but was set free, like Hickey. He is also facing the same charges and must remain in Brazil. The eight other suspects are businessmen with Pro10 and THG Sports who are not in Brazil, including Marcus Evans, who owns THG Sports parent company, as well as English soccer club Ipswich Town.Hickey has stepped aside temporarily as an IOC member and all his other Olympic positions.Police investigator Aloysio Falcao said they wanted to talk to IOC President Thomas Bach about email exchanges between him and Hickey related to ticket allocations to Ireland but learned he canceled his trip to Brazil for the Paralympic Games. The IOC said Tuesday that Bach had to attend the official state mourning ceremony for Walter Scheel, the former West Germany president.During his stay, we were going to summon him to speak to us, he said. Still, investigators said they have not found any evidence of Bachs knowledge of the alleged scheme.Investigators have also found evidence linking 35 other National Olympic Committees to the Marcus Evans group. Rio police will communicate this to other governments but are not expanding their own investigation. Teams in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament have at least one thing in common: theyre all trying to replace a lot of production after losing their best scorer from last season. Addison Reed Jersey .The tournament begins Wednesday in Paradise Island, Bahamas, with No. 10 Louisville, No. 20 Baylor and No. 24 Michigan State headlining the eight-team field. And after players such as the Spartans Denzel Valentine and the Cardinals Damion Lee now gone, each team is sorting out how their offenses run and whether the guy they pegged as their new go-to scorer can handle that role now that hes atop the defensive scouting report.Early in the year, the big thing for us is just seeing what chemistry, what rotations, and trying to get a flow, Baylor coach Scott Drew said. Its tough on players and coaches early in the year, because a lot of times in practice people might be good and in the games they might be great, or they might be great in practice and just average in the games. So youve got to give them experience and see what they can do when the lights come on.The Atlantis field includes LSU, Old Dominion, St. Johns, VCU and Wichita State. Each team plays three games in three days, with the championship set for Friday.---Some other things to know about this weeks Battle 4 Atlantis:TOUGHEN UP: Michigan State coach Tom Izzo wants more from his Spartans (2-2) after a bumpy start that includes losing on a last-second shot to Arizona, managing just 48 points in a 21-point loss to current No. 1 Kentucky, then hanging on to beat Florida Gulf Coast by one at home Sunday. The Spartans open against St. Johns (2-1) in the first meeting between the programs since 1979. I want to figure out whether Im going to start a different lineup to get what I want, Izzo said. Maybe different guys have got to come off the bench and then Ive got to do a better job. So dont anyone blame a player. Ive got to do a better job of making them tougher.PLAYERS TO WATCH: St. John redshirt freshman Marcus LoVett and Baylor junior college transfer Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. are putting up some big numbers. The 6-foot LoVett ranks in the top 20 nationally in scoring at 24.3 points while playing alongside fellow freshman Shamorie Ponds (17.3 points) in the Red Storms backcourt. Meanwhile, the 7-foot Lual-Acuil ranks among the national leaders in rebounding (10 per game) and blocked shots (5.3) for the Bears (3-0).VIRGINIAN FOES: VCU (3-0) and Old Dominion (2-0) are separated by roughly 90 miles in the state of Virginia, but they could end up traveling more than 800 miles south just to bump into each other in the Bahamas. While theyre on opposite sides of the bracket, the Rams and Monarchs could play then have a rematch roughly two weeks later with an already scheduled meeting Dec. 10 at Old Dominion.KEEPING IT GOING: Wichita State (4-0) might be in the biggest transition of all the Battle 4 Atlantis teams after losing Ron Baker and Fred VanFleet, two mainstays who were part of the 2013 Final Four team and a run of five straight NCAA Tournaments. So far, the Shockers are showing a lot of balance with Zach Brown, Markis McDuffie and Darral Willis Jr. each averaging around 11 points to lead an offense coming off a 116-point showing -- the programs best in a game since 1988 -- against Maryland-Eastern Shore. The Shockers face LSU (3-0) on Wednesday.BIG NAMES: Theres a couple of Naismith Hall of Fame coaches roaming the sideline with Izzo and Louisvilles Rick Pitino, two men with approaching 1,300 career wins and three NCAA championships. And there will be a third Hall of Famer arriving after the tournament in Kentucky coach John Calipari, whose top-ranked Wildcats appear in the separate Atlantis Showcase game against Arizona State on Monday night to wrap up a big week at the Atlantis resort.---AP Basketball Writer Stephen Hawkins in Dallas; AP Sports Writer Dave Skretta in Kansas City, Kansas; and AP freelancer Tim Robinson in East Lansing, Michigan, contributed to this report.---Follow Aaron Beard on Twitter at AP college basketball at and Zach Duke Jersey . SAN ANTONIO -- Tim Duncan brought more than gaudy numbers night after night for 19 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs.Fittingly, while the Spurs retired Duncans No. 21 on Sunday night, those stats rarely came up.I dont even want to talk about rebounds or points and all that sort of things, coach Gregg Popovich said. This individual made it possible for everybody that we brought in to be a part of this culture and be a part of the program.Duncans jersey was raised to the AT&T Center rafters in a ceremony following a 113-100 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. His number now hangs not far from banners celebrating the five NBA championships he and the Spurs won during his career.Ive gotten just an amazing response and just an overwhelming amount of love from these guys of what I meant to them, Duncan said during a five-minute speech. It doesnt even explain how much they meant to me. I got so much more from you guys, from my teammates, than they can explain that they got from me. I know that. With his son, daughter and girlfriend by his side, Duncan listened and laughed as Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili ribbed and praised their longtime teammate.Ginobili and Parker teased Duncan about his attire after he chose to wear black slacks and a sports coat instead of his normal jeans and a T-shirt. Duncan was clearly out of his comfort level, and it had nothing to do with the suit. The Virgin Islands native spent his career avoiding the spotlight, and the retirement ceremony put him squarely in it.Duncan was left speechless at points by cheers and shouts of we love you! He pounded his heart with the microphone as the crowd roared. The ceremony even left him and Popovich -- two guarded fixtures during San Antonios two-decade run of dominance -- fighting back tears.Thank you coach Pop for being more than a coach, Duncan said, pausing to choke back emotions, for being like a father to me. Thank you.Duncan became the eighth player to have his jersey number retired by the Spurs, joining James Silas, George Gervin, Johnny Moore and former teammates David Robinson, Sean Elliott, Avery Johnson and Bruce Bowen. He averaged 20.6 points, 11.4 points, 2.3 blocks and 3.0 assists in the playoffs and has the most career double-doubles in the postseason with 164.It was his work off the court that made him so beloved by Popovich and teammates.Ginobili recalled being devastated after he turned the ball over on a game-winning attempt in a loss in Game 3 of the 2006 playoffs against the Sacramento Kings.Ginobili locked himself in his hotel room and refused to answer the phone even though it was continually ringing. After hanging up twice and pulling the cord out of the wall, Ginobili was stunned to hear a second phone go off in the bathroom.By the fifth time, I go pick it up, I said `What? Ginobili said. And it was `Nanuuuuu. Thats what he called me. `Nanu, he said, `Whats up buddy? `What TD? I dont want to talk to anybody. He said, `Come on, come with me. Come with me. He started insisting and insisting and insisting and you dont say no to Timmy. He invited me to dinner. We talked for hours, we talked about computers, cars, TV shows. My mental state shifted and I had a way better night. The Spurs won that series in six games thanks in part to the message Duncan delivered: were all in this together.Thats the way it was for Duncan and the Spurs from the day he was taken first overall in the 1997 draft, according to Popovich.I can honestly say to Mr. and Mrs. Duncan, who have passed, Popovich said, that that man right there is exactly the same person now as he was when he walked in the door. On a rainy Friday at the storied road course in upstate New York that delayed Cup practice until late afternoon, injured star Tony Stewart was foremost on everybodys mind. Stewart broke both the tibia and fibula in his right leg on Monday night in a sprint car race in Iowa, has since undergone two surgeries, and is out indefinitely. Max Papis will drive Stewarts No. 14 Chevrolet on Sunday in the Cheez-It 355 at The Glen, where Stewart has a track-record five Cup wins. It will bring Stewarts streak of 521 consecutive Cup starts to an end, and its his absence that gives Johnson the opportunity to be the first to lock into the Chase on points. "Its not the way I want to clinch, by any means, with him not being here at the race track. Its a big loss for our sport," Johnson said. "I know that Tony is feeling bad about being injured and the effect that it has on his Cup team. Its crazy to think that he wont be a player in the Chase." Stewart was leading with five laps remaining at Southern Iowa Speedway when a lapped car spun in front of him, causing Stewart to hit that car and flip several times. He was taken from the track by ambulance. Like his fellow drivers, Johnson, a five-time Cup champion, said he didnt like some of the comments hes seen in the aftermath of the crash. Specifically, those who questioned Stewart for racing so much. It was his third crash in a month in the powerful open-wheel cars. "Its troubled me to see some people giving him a hard time about his decision to race other vehicles," Johnson said. "We always praise him for his contributions to the motor sports world and his ability to drive and race anything. He has done so much for our sport. "I personally praise him for all that he does for our sport, including driving sprint cars Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday," Johnson said. "Its unfortunate that he got hurt. I hate that hes injured, but Id be bummed if he didnt continue to race all during the week. Thats the Smoke we know and love." Stewart-Haas Racing has not named an interim driver for beyond this weekend, and said no discharge date has been decided for the 42-year-old Stewart. "Itts going to be a few weeks before we even look at that," said Greg Zipadelli, competition director at SHR. Cheap Air Max 270 China. "For now, it will be a week-to-week diagnosis on him." Among the names that have popped up as candidates is 21-year-old Kyle Larson, a rising star in the Nationwide Series who sits sixth in points entering Saturdays Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen. He might be a bit too young, though. "Hes in a really crucial spot in his career and (it would be good) not getting fed to the wolves too soon," Zipadelli said. "I would prefer from this point on to put one person in that we felt was capable of doing a good, solid job and trying to build some chemistry with the crews and the crew chief. "Theres a lot of those little details that make for a good day on Sundays," Zipadelli said. "The longer you get to work with someone, the better you get to know them, the better chance you have of having some consistent results. But I dont know well honestly be able to do that. The drivers that wed like to put (in the seat) are all racing for a championship, and we need to be respectful of their position." Although Regan Smith is challenging Austin Dillon for the points lead in the Nationwide Series, Smiths boss at JR Motorsports said he wouldnt hesitate giving Smith the chance to drive the No. 14 if the opportunity arose. "Id be the first to put Regans name in the hat for that kind of opportunity," Dale Earnhardt Jr. said. "I understand that we are racing for a championship. It would be a challenge. It would also give him an opportunity to showcase himself ... and get some guys maybe wanting to put him back in the car full-time on this (Cup) side of the deal. That would be good for him." At least Smith knows what hed face. He was forced to sub for Earnhardt in the No. 88 last October in the Chase when Earnhardt couldnt compete because of the effects of two concussions. "Its going to be a great opportunity for somebody," said Smith, who grew up in Cato, N.Y., a two-hour drive north of Watkins Glen. "Last year it happened so quick there wasnt time to think. There was nothing but a phone call. "I certainly would be open to that. You just cross that bridge and see how things line up. I think its a lot of hypothetical right now. I cant speak to any of that." ' ' '
ATLANTA -- Josh Lambo said kicking his game-winning field goal -- his fourth of the game -- was no more difficult than an extra point. Zapatillas New Balance Baratas .What we learned in Game 3Trevor Bauer had to exit after recording just two outs after his stitched-up pinkie finger exploded, but Terry Francona successfully ran through six relievers in the 4-2 victory, with Andrew Miller getting the final four outs to put Cleveland on the verge of a sweep. The Indians are hitting .193 in the series ... but the Blue Jays are hitting .177.?-- David SchoenfieldInside the pitching matchupWhen Corey Kluber is on the mound: Kluber had thrown 13 1/3 scoreless innings in his first two playoff starts but will be starting on three days rest for the first time in his career.Klubers best pitch is one of the most dominant in baseball: A curveball (some call it a slider) that held batters to a .099 average and recorded a strikeout rate of 52.8 percent. He buries it low and away from righties and over the past three seasons, batters have hit .106 against it with just five home runs. He threw it 43 times out of his 100 pitches in Game 1 and the Jays went 3-for-16 against it with five strikeouts. Normally, Kluber throws that pitch only about a third of the time with two strikes, but its such an effective pitch against right-handed batters I suspect hell stick with it again Tuesday until the Jays start doing some damage against it. Along with his fastball, he mixes in a slider/cutter.Kluber has always pitched much better from the windup than with runners on base. The splits werent as drastic this year, but he held batters to a .587 OPS with nobody on versus .735 with runners in scoring position. Batters also hit .339 and slugged .578 when putting the first pitch in play. The Jays swung at six first pitches in Game 1, but put just two in play. --?SchoenfieldWhen Aaron Sanchez is on the mound: Sanchez went 15-2 in 30 starts with an AL-leading 3.00 ERA. He had pitched well out of the bullpen in 2015 but struggled with walks and a poor strikeout rate as a starter. To the Jays credit, they stuck with him as a starter and everything came together. He got roughed up in his start against the Rangers in the Division Series, allowing six runs in 5 2/3 innings as he walked four batters and served up two home runs.Theres nothing fancy here: He comes right at batters with hard sinking 93-97 mph fastball that he threw 74 percent of the time -- only Bartolo Colon had a higher percentage of fastballs among starters and he ranked seventh among starters in average fastball velocity at 94.7. He may have been a little too pumped up against the Rangers as he averaged 95.7 mph with his fastball, his second-highest rate of any start this season. Even though Sanchez throws the fastball up in the zone, batters have trouble elevating it and hit just 10 home runs in 528 at-bats in plate appearances ending with the pitch. The two home runs allowed against the Rangers both came on 0-1 fastballs, one up and away to Rougned Odor and one down and in to Elvis Andrus -- not necessarily bad locations.Because he throws his fastball so often, his two off-speed pitchers -- a curveball and, less often, a changeup -- were lethal to opponents. Batters hit .159 with a 45 percent strikeout against the curve and .133 against the changeup. With two strikes he increases his usage of both off-speed pitches. Like Marcus Stroman, Sanchez gets progressively worse each time through the order (although not as extreme):First: .214/.287/.272, 1 HRSecond: .229/.296/.335, 5 HRThird: .233/.291/.414, 9 HRLets see if manager John Gibbons is paying attention this time. -- SchoenfieldPlayer in the spotlightRussell Martin. Hes now 2-for-27 in the postseason (and .170 in his postseason career in 44 games). With runners on base hes 0-for-10. He struck out three times in Game 3. Does Dioner Navarro get the start??-- SchoenfieldDid you know ...Kluber has tossed 13 ? scoreless innings in two starts this postseason. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, that is tied for the third-longest scoreless innings streak to start a postseason in Indians franchise history, with Orel Hershiser and Ken Hill (both in 1995). Bartolo Colon is second with 14 scoreless innings in 2001, and Duster Mails holds the franchise record with 15 ? innings in 1920. ?-- ESPN Stats & InformationWhat will decide Tuesdays gameKlubers curve. Kluber threw his curveball 43 percent of the time in his ALCS Game 1 start, his highest rate in any turn this season. His second-highest curveball usage rate also came against the Blue Jays in the regular season. Kluber recorded a career-high 14 pitcher outs with his curve in Game 1. Kluber also doubled up on curveballs in a pitch sequence against the Blue Jays 16 times, but yielded a higher strike rate in at-bats where a fastball immediately followed a curveball. -- ESPN Stats & InformationChoosing sides: Who will win?? Ive picked against Cleveland the past two games, and Im not going to make that mistake again. The Indians clearly have something special going on, and theyre not going to miss a chance to put away the Blue Jays with staff ace Kluber on the mound. Rookie Ryan Merritt is ready to pitch Game 5 if necessary Wednesday. But the surprising Indians will put the Jays out of their misery and end this with a sweep.?-- Jerry CrasnickI have picked against the Indians nearly every game, so why stop now? The Blue Jays offense is due, while Kluber is starting on three days rest for the first time. That combination will result in Toronto finally getting on the board. -- Andrew MarchandIf the Blue Jays couldnt get their bats going in Game 3 with Bauer bleeding all over the mound, why should anyone think they will beat up on Indians ace Kluber? Game 3 was a virtual death knell for the Jays, who have been dominated by the Indians just as the Red Sox were before them. The Tribe hasnt trailed since the top of the third inning of Game 3 of the Division Series -- 52 innings ago. It doesnt get any better than that. -- Scott LauberWhere the series standsThis is what they call a must-win game! As for the Indians, heres how teams have done when leading a best-of-seven series 3-0:Won 4-0 -- 29Won 4-1 -- 3Won 4-2 -- 2Won 4-3 -- 0Lost: 4-3 -- 1Still, if the Blue Jays can win Game 4, theres reason to believe: Merritt, with one career start, probably starts Game 5. Then its Josh Tomlin in Game 6. And then its most likely Kluber again on short rest in Game 7. As Francona understands best, you never know.--?Schoenfield New Balance Outlet España . Australias captain Steven Smith has refused to blame an unusual schedule for his sides poor display in the first Test of the summer, a defeat that made it four in a row and the first opening loss of a home season for 28 years. In order to cater for a second day-night fixture in the summer in Brisbane, the traditional Gabba opening was swapped for a first Test in Perth, where South Africa have never lost a Test match.Additionally, the early November start meant that Australias players had only one Sheffield Shield match, with a pink ball, to prepare for the WACA ground. By contrast, South Africas squad had two warm-up matches before the first Test and will have another under lights before the third Test is played under flood lights in Adelaide.Look I cant comment on scheduling that is put in place pretty early, Smith said. So for me its about making sure that the guys prepare as well as they can and I think we all had a Shield game, all the batters who played, most of the batters scored runs in that Shield game and had some valuable time in the middle. We were in a position to be able to drive the game having bowled South Africa out for 240 and then getting to 0 for 150. We had another big collapse of nine for 100, and we werent able to capitalise on what the openers did to put us in a great position.Smith focused on the way Australias first innings unravelled virtually from the moment Dale Steyn was injured, meaning the hosts were unable to place any pressure on the South Africas bowling attack, led superbly by the man of the match, Kagiso Rabada. Such collapses have become troublingly commonplace for the Australians. It has happened a little bit of late, which is disappointing and the batters really have to conntinue to work hard to try and rectify what they are doing out in the middle there, Smith said. New Balance Baratas Outlet. We have to form some more partnerships and get big first-innings totals. And if I think if we were able to build quite a big lead on that wicket, it would have been a different story.I guess for us it was just about trying to spend time out in the middle and I guess grind them down. When you have two fast bowlers, I guess the way they used them and the way we thought theyd use them, to use the quicks from one end and some spin at the other end. So, if you keep them out there for long periods of time they cant continue to do that for a long period of time. But we werent able to capitalise after Dale went down and we let them get back into the game and run away with it. So, credit to the way South Africa played, I think in their second innings the partnership between Duminy and Elgar really took the game away from us and we weent able to come back from there.Looking ahead to Hobart, Smith said the team needed to find a lot of improvement in a short space of time. When we get out in the middle we have to do things better. We havent been able to do that for a while and if we want to stay in this series we have to turn it around quickly in Hobart. When you are playing international cricket you are always under some sort of pressure, the guys have prepared well, they were excited for this series, we know South Africa are formidable opponents and they outplayed us in this Test match. We are going to have to play a hell of a lot better if we want to compete with them in the next game. ' ' '
Nottinghamshire 241 (Patel 100, Finn 4-54) and 24 for 0 lead Middlesex 247 (Gubbins 75, Ball 5-66) by 18 runsScorecard It was more constrictor than cobra, more glacier than waterfall but, if Middlesex do go on to win the County Championship title this season, they may look back on Nick Gubbins innings here as a key contribution. Antonio Senzatela Jersey .With Yorkshire passing 400 at Leeds and Middlesex reeling at 81 for 5, this could have been the day their title challenge fell away. But through Gubbins skill and determination, they will resume on day three with the match in the balance and their first Championship title since 1993 still attainable.Gubbins has already contributed heavily this season. With 1122 Championship runs at an average of almost 60, he is not only his clubs highest run-scorer, but the fourth highest in the top division. He has played three fewer innings than all above him.But many of those runs have been scored on the slow and flat - the painfully slow and flat - surface at Lords. And while Angus Fraser, Middlesexs director of cricket, reasons that such surfaces may benefit his team in the long-term (they give batsmen confidence and teach bowlers the value of control, he suggests), they can also inflate the records of some of those playing there. Here, though, in conditions where the ball moved all day for the seamers and on a slow, used surface that provided assistance to two spinners with international wickets to their name, he was forced to prove his quality in far less benign circumstances. And, after an opening over hat-trick on the first evening, he did it under the pressure of knowing his team needed him more than ever.It was, as he admitted himself, a bit of a grind at times. He went, at one stage, 38 overs without a boundary and 80 deliveries over the accumulation of five runs. His share of the stand of 42 with Stevie Eskinazi was just five and his half-century took 187 balls. But it was, in its way, compelling viewing. Forced to play straight and wait for the poor ball - and Nottinghamshire made him wait a long time - he refused to be drawn into playing away from his body and refused to let his impatience or frustration change his approach. For a 22-year-old, it was an impressively disciplined, selfless effort. Without it, Middlesex would have been in deep trouble.Gubbins is a batsman with far more to him than grim defence and crease occupation. He made his breakthrough as a List A batsman (he averaged 56.50 in that format in 2015) and has scored his Championship runs at a rate of 53.27 this season. He has a a trademark force off the hips - a stroke he can play on the ground or in the air off a good length ball on off stump - that can make a bowler wonder why he bothers. But reasoning that he is in this game for the long-haul, he has decided that such strokes are, for now, low-percentage. He has decided, like many top-order players before him, to play within himself (that shot forces my head too far over to the off side, he explains) and concentrate on a tight defence before worrying himself about domination. In conditions like this such a method will serve him - and, one day perhaps, England - well. There were still some elegant shots. When Brett Hutton dropped short he was cut, when Jake Ball - a little off colour, despite the five-wicket haul - he was driven. Imran Tahirs odd loose balls were similarly punished. As Gubbins put it: I never really felt I had dropped anchor, but they bowled very well, had in out fields and we had to battle hard to reach parity. It was no surprise to hear that he has been spending time with Nick Compton. There were times here when this was much like watching Compton of 2012 vintage: a watertight defence and love for batting slowly breaking down the bowlers and feeding off their mistakes. Its old school but it works.Such feats of concentration and mental and physical endurance can wear any player. It may be that both Compton and Jonathan Trott one day look back on their careers and reflect that they simply exhausted themselves. But, for now at least, Gubbins has the energy and the talent to relish the battle. If he can sustain it, he will be prove of great service to country as well as club.Notts looked far better than a bottom of the table team. Hutton produced a beauty to account for John Simpson - the ball swung in, pitched and moved just enough to beat what appeared to be a perfectly respectable forward defensive stroke and hit the top of off stump - while Harry Gurney bowled impressively dry and delivered four maidens in succession at one stage. If Dawid Malan felt himself unfortunate to be given out leg before - he held his head in his hands with disappointment - James Franklin felt to a loose upper cut to deep backward point and Eskinazi was well beaten by Imran. Gubbins fine innings was eventually ended by Huttons first over with the second new ball, when he was forced to play another beauty that swung in, held in the pitch and took the edge.Notts are not out of this game. With a potent leg-spinner to call upon, Middlesex face a tough challenge in the fourth innings on a used pitch. If Notts can just bat a little better in their second innings - and they started brightly - the great escape remains a distant possibility.Meanwhile Mick Newell, who is soon to be director of cricket at Nottinghamshire, hinted that a place could be found for James Taylor on the clubs coaching staff. Taylor, who was forced to retire with immediate effect in April after being diagnosed with a serious heart condition, has made no secret of his desire to try his hand at coaching.Notts have missed not just his runs, but his experience and spirit this season. While a role as a full time coach seems unlikely, it seems a part-time position mentoring young batsmen - especially in white ball cricket - could be created.Hes interested and theres scope for him to work with us, Newell said. I think he can work with young batters like Tom Moores. We lost a lot of mental toughness when he went. It was a big loss. METAIRIE, La. -- Saints quarterback Drew Brees doesnt dispute the notion that hes been in a considerable rut the past two games. At the same time, the perspective hes gained during a career spanning nearly 16 seasons leaves him with little doubt that a vintage performance could come as early as this Sunday in Arizona.Ive played football a long time, Brees said after practice on Wednesday.Ive thrown a lot of interceptions, unfortunately. Ive also come back and had some pretty huge wins after games like that. The bottom line is my confidence is not lacking, put it that way. While Im disappointed in myself for what happened over the last two games ... I know I can make those corrections. While Brees leads the NFL with 4,170 yards passing and is tied for second with 30 touchdowns, he has not thrown a scoring pass in two games. During that span, he has been intercepted six times.Yet, after studying video of Brees season, Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson said he doesnt really see a quarterback who is struggling.Rather, Brees has been plagued by untimely mistakes, sometimes his own and sometimes his pass blockers or receivers.A couple of those interceptions were some (deflected) passes, obviously a couple ill-advised throws, Peterson said. The front has forced him to make bad throws. We already know Drew Brees is a short quarterback so defensive linemen force him to step up so he cant see.He understands how to get out of funks, Peterson continued.By him being in the league so long, Im quite sure he understands to stick to the process, stick to the script and eventually itll turn for him. I hope it doesnt turn for him against us on Sunday, but I wish him the best of luck.Brees very well could have had two touchdown passes last weekend in Tampa Bay. Running back Travaris Cadet and receiver Brandin Cooks both were unable to catch passes that hit them square in the hands in or near the end zone, and the Saints wound up ending both drives with field goals.A different result on those plays might have lifted New Orleans to a victory in what wound uup instead as a 16-11 loss. Comprar New Balance Rebajas. It also didnt help New Orleans offense that starting center Max Unger, and one of their top receivers, rookie Michael Thomas, both were inactive because of injuries.Saints receiver Willie Snead said problems for the offense the past two games really began with a drop-off in the running game, which puts a lot of pressure on the quarterback to make tough throws and put the ball in certain places where its going to be tight. When we start becoming one-dimensional, defenses start to key in on that. They lock in and before you know it theres tipped passes, forced throws and stuff like that, Snead said.A lot of it is missed opportunities, penalties pushing us back. Theres nothing wrong with Drew. Drew is always on. Its all about opportunities and timing. We missed a lot of opportunities last game -- and we wont miss those opportunities again.Brees said it doesnt bother him when people view statistics such as zero TD passes and six interceptions in the past two games in isolation, even though he knows its more complicated than that.I could care less what people say, Brees said. I am disappointed in the fact that it happened. The good thing is I know how to fix it. ... I do my job. I turn it loose. I play confident and I know what cant happen in certain situations.Game notes The Saints have placed left tackle Terron Armstead on injured reserve, ending his season. Armstead has played in just seven games because of knee and quadriceps injuries. ... New Orleans also signed veteran linebacker Jason Trusnik. ... Four players sat out Wednesdays practice, the Saints said. They were: RB Mark Ingram (toe), CB Delvin Breaux (shoulder), LB Stephone Anthony (knee) and RB Daniel Lasco (hamstring). ... Unger (foot) and Thomas (foot) and LB Craig Robertson (shoulder) all returned to practice on a limited basis.---For more NFL coverage: and ' ' '

We love our home ties, we have so much fun together as a team. The journey keeps going and were enjoying it as much as the first tie we had as a team together, and we just want to keep going.A venue for the semifinal will be announced in due course, but it is likely to be Glasgow.Scotland has not staged a tie yet this season while Murray is hosting a charity event at the Hydro only three days after the tie on Sept. 16-18.Argentina defeated Italy to book their place in the last four, with a key factor being the return to their team of former U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro, who was sidelined for two years by wrist problems. But their highest-ranked player is Federico Delbonis at 43 and, with Edmund having proved his ability to win key rubbers at World Group level and Britain boasting a superb record in doubles, there are little weaknesses in Great Britains armour.Del Potro coming back obviously is big for them, said Smith.
